CAR BUFFS TRIBUTE

Bailout must be carefully considered.  Don't let the foreign car companies take over our beloved and wonderful automobiles, new or old.

To all of the classic and car buffs nationwide, you are to be saluted in your quest to keep the age of the merry ol' cars alive.

So let it be said, " Ladies and Gentlmen and Children of all ages, Hail, Hail to a couple of wonderful people Mary and Lyle Exline.   And, also to those who followed their example.

Under the big top of the Hendersonville skies, two years ago a great idea was born from a retired president of a car club and his wife, which has gone on to be copied over and over again by many throughout the state of Tennessee.

Their dedication and the aid of a small group of people brought much happiness to thousands of car bulls and their children on Friday nites through April and October for the past two years.

Their many sponsors gave food and gifts to aid in the enjoyment of the many who came to witness the labor and love of antique car buffs. The beauty of this gift is in the preservation of cars of the by-gone years. Cars that many young, and some old, never had a chance to see.

What is happening to the automobile industry in this country is a shame, but actually brought on by themselves. Their greed, which allowed foreign car manufactures to invade the U.S. market and the belief that they were almighty could just lead to their very own demise.

A bailout is probably necessary to save the jobs of millions of workers, but they also need a little slap on their butts because they allowed their unions to dictate demands for salaries increases, which through union dues filled their own coffers.

A $25 billion loan to each can be justified with certain conditions that should benefit the "BUYING PUBLIC". There is no need to go into the lenghtly points, except the ones of gas mileage and safety.

Yes, the big three need a good kick in their pants, but not total destruction. Cars and trucks are a main stay of this wonderful country and has been ever since their concept. We leaned about that from TV shows with Dinna Shore, Milton Berle and Bob Hope in the 50's.

That's why this tribute is being written. Because the great age of the automobile was born in the early 1900's, but its crowning years were the chrone years of the 1950's after the second WORLD WAR with the return of our soldiers who built the first "hot rods".

So, can we let a tradition die??? The answer is an absolute NO!!

Fellow Americans please call--nay write (email) your Senators to give the "big fellows" a chance with a list of good strings attached.

So, again I salute those two Exlines of Hendersonville for their great and wonderful contribution in keeping an American hobby and tradition alive and well.

Now, go softly into the night.  mgf
